Eicosapentaenoic Acid & Gamma-Linolenic Acid
RESEARCH REPORT: HEALTH BENEFITS OF GLAS & EPAS
These essential fatty acids perform the following duties inside the body:
Omega-6 fatty acid, Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) and the Omega-3 fatty acid, Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) are essential fatty acids (EFAS). They are "essential" because the body cannot function without them. And the body cannot ever produce them; they solely must come from ones diet intake.
EPAs are essential for the positive good health of the body because they assist and strongly support in helping the regulating of virtually every system in the body. This includes the Cardiovascular, Immune and Nervous Systems. They assist in making cell membranes more fluid and flexible. They help move a variety of internal body products, such as vital hormones, in and out of cells.
In order to survive, the human body must have essential fatty acid found in specific oils. These key fatty acids serve as precursors to beneficial Prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are extremely short-lived, hormone-like chemicals made by virtually every tissue. They are found in every cell of the body and regulate cell function for each and every second of that cell life. They must be replenished continually. Because the body relies on EFAs to create these essential substances, EFAs are a mandatory item and are essential to our health.
Numerous factors, such as Aging, stress, Illness/Disease, Alcohol or poor diet can make conversion of fatty acids into Prostaglandins less efficient or non-existent. EFAs supplementation, however, will assist to counter many of these damaging factors and help the body's Cardiovascular System, Immune System and Nervous System function normally!
Both of these (GLA & EPA) fatty acids have proven research which shows them to assist and support the body in lowering LDL Cholesterol, Triglyceride and Blood Pressure Levels. It is fact! They also help control the inflammatory response.
Research has shown that many people have difficulty with the conversion of Linoleic Acid and Alpha-Linolenic Acid into the active fatty acids GLAs and EPAs when we age. Therefore, GLAs and EPAs supplements provide the fatty acids in their active form rather then replying on the body to synthesize them. Which doesnt happen as well the older you get or depending on the disease you have. Their intake will allow for better support and production of "positive" Prostaglandins, especially among people more vulnerable to conversion difficulties caused by aging.
Another important reason for supplementation with essential fatty acid in the form of GLAs and EPAs is that it helps inhibit the release of negative Prostaglandins. Excess amounts of a specific fatty acid, know as Arachidonic Acid, will produce "negative" Prostaglandins that will increase inflammatory response and blood clot formation.
